Chubbs - Helping A Dog In Need
Hi, we're Jerome and Vanessa Bryant and we are fund raising to help cover the cost of the vet bills for our dog, Chubbs. On 7-10-21, about 4:00 AM, Chubbs was shot by an East Cleveland police officer. The police initially arrived after we called 911 regarding an injured man
who was laying on our porch yelling for help. We did not know the man. Four police cars responded. I (Jerome) was talking with one officer and Chubbs came out on the porch, he walked directly to me passing the other officers on the porch. Two more officers came towards our house, one had his gun drawn, Chubbs turned and started walking towards them, one of the officers on the porch said get your dog, I called Chubbs and before he could even respond the officer shot him in the face. Chubbs never left our yard. Chubbs took off running but came
back running straight into the house. After seeing how seriously he was hurt, I asked the officers to move their cars so we could get him to emergency but they said no, that I couldn't bring Chubbs out because he was a threat. They did finally move their cars.
Chubbs required emergency surgery; the bullet went through the top of his nose (muzzle), it damaged his nasal passage, shattered the roof of his mouth, and split his tongue. There was also extensive damage to his soft palate from the fragmented bone. He was in ICU and his
condition was unstable, he developed pneumonia and continues to have problems breathing. Due to his condition, we were unable to
transfer him to his regular vet and as of 7-12-21 the medical cost were over $5,000.00. His condition is starting to improve he's drinking
and eating soft food;
we're hoping he may be able to come home on the 14th. All of this because we were trying to help someone in trouble. We are so thankful Chubbs is alive, he's the heart of our family, the idea of not saving him never crossed our mind, but it's an unexpected cost. Our grand-
children are so upset about what happened to Chubbs but their reaction when they knew "Uncle Chubbs" was going to be ok was worth
