Chronic Lyme Treatments for Callie!
Hiya! My name is Aimee and I have known Callie Deslaurier nearly all her life. She was a bright, mischievous baby and she's grown into an intelligent, giving and hilarious 22 year old.
For the last 10 years, Callie has been besiged on all sides by a host of medical issues including chronic pain and loss of motor function. Through it all, Callie and her family have dilligently sought answers from doctors only to be told "Maybe it's this" or "Let's try this" with no definitive diagnosis and lots of surgeries, medications, and trips to the ER.
In Spring 2016, inspired by a segment that aired on the "Today Show," Callie's mom Jen discovered that many of Callie's seemingly unrelated symptoms could be attibuted to Chronic Lyme Disease , a result from an unnoticed and untreated tick bite somewhere back in the aughts. Lots of bloodwork later, we finally have an official diagnosis and a way forward for Callie and her family. This is a wonderful thing!
Unfortunately, both the specialist and the treament to help Callie are not covered by insurance. It is my hope that those of us who love any one or all of the Deslauriers can band together to cover some of the costs that will be coming up in the next year and make sure Callie gets the treatment she needs. Want to help?
*Give what you can! $5, $2, couch change. Everything counts and everything is appreciated!
*Contact your Congressperson to let them know Lyme and Chronic Lyme is on the rise and the medical community is woefully underprepared to diagnose and treat this illness. More research and more funding should be made available to ensure that other people don't have to wait 10 years for treatment as Callie has. Insurance companies in particular are as loathsome in this regard as the ticks who spread Lyme.
*Either
*Both
Thanks for your help!
