Christian's Recovery

We are the parents/family of Chris.

Chris is a 39 year old, and is many things; he is a son, a brother, a friend, an uncle, a cousin, and a nephew. He is a loving, sincere, insightful, conscientious, funny and hardworking individual, and much loved by his family.

He has been a carpenter for many years, in spite of his life being a series of calamities; from ruptured appendix at only the age of two and a half, where he underwent an emergency open appendectomy. To a spinal fracture due to a motorcycle accident, where he underwent a surgical procedure in order to fuse the vertebrae and install rods to hold it place; and multiple abdominal surgeries due to complications from his appendectomy as a child.

To now - multiple life threatening blood clots. Starting around Thanksgiving of 2018, his ankle began to swell, and soon after he began to experience a pain in his toes, and formation of blisters. Due to lack of insurance, he self-diagnosed himself with frostbite. However, the pain was becoming more intense to the point of missing work, and even the ability to sleep. On a Wednesday evening, in January of 2019, his longtime girlfriend finally persuaded him to go to the emergency room, where he received two units of blood and iron by I.V. due to severe anemia. It was discovered he had several blood clots in the abdominal aorta; that Friday he was transported to Maine Medical where he could receive the necessary treatment. During these two days, he was in the most agonizing pain has family had ever seen – you read about people writhing in pain but to actually see it in person is one of the most surreal experiences.

Three days after being transported, and many tests, blood thinners, medication, and much agony and suffering, he once again had to have surgery. This time, he had a stent placed in his aorta as the clot was old and unremovable. He also had to have a left leg by-pass, due to two of the three main arteries being non viable. The by-pass was necessary to get blood flow back into his leg and toes. After five hours – surgery was a success, blood was restored and the doctors were able to save his leg - still waiting on the prognosis of some of his toes.

As of now, Chris will be out of work for at least two months, and future as a carpenter is currently unknown.  Meanwhile, the expenses are in coming:

Medical Bills
Rent and utilities
Car payment
Prescriptions
Food

Looking for $10,000 to assist.

Would like to publicly thank the Good Samaritan who anonymously paid his next month’s rent.
