Hello friends, family and supporters! My name is Christian Dixon and I’m from Los Angeles, California. I am a USC Alumnus from the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts & Sciences with my B.A in Political Economy, class of 2015. Fight On Trojans! After a long and studious gap year, I am proud to say that I am enrolled in the USC Master’s of Public Health program and completing my first semester! I am off to a great start, with 12 credits under my belt and ambition in my eyes. With that said, I am reaching out to you all because I have an opportunity of a lifetime to earn credits towards my Master’s this summer in a Panama public health research and practice program.
This program is facilitated through USC, so I will be earning credits for my two-week trip.While in Panama, I will be working with a local service organization in Panama City to implement school nutrition programs. This will include putting together dietary recommendations for elementary children, sample lunch menus, facilitating research and focus groups involving the local community, and working with a team to build a portfolio of our work to present to a panel of local non-profit board members, university professors and local Panamanian government officials at the end of the trip. Being able to participate in this trip means so much to me because I feel like it reflects my determination to achieve my goals. My BIGGEST regret of my undergraduate experience is missing out on the opportunity to study abroad. But fortunately with returning to school, I have been offered the opportunity to fulfill my goal of studying abroad AND doing community work! My trip fees include airfare, housing, meal expenses, and tuition for the 4 units I will be working towards. This is where I need your help the most! Every dollar donated to my fund is a dollar less I will have to take out in student loans to cover the expenses of my trip. I have been blessed thus far to have graduated debt free, and am putting my best foot forward in avoiding the vicious student loan cycle. Please help me make this experience a memorable one. All of your support here will help me get to Panama! Thank you for considering me!
