Hello,
My name is Chris Krawiec. I’m 45 years old, and I’m asking for your help as I continue fighting through a long and complex medical journey.
Nearly four years ago, my life changed overnight when I developed a portal vein clot and severe sepsis. This led to liver failure and the urgent need for a transplant. Thanks to an incredible medical team in Chicago, I survived and received a life-saving liver transplant.
After the transplant, my kidneys never recovered, and I was placed on dialysis.
About six months later, I faced another wave of serious complications. I urgently needed a pericardiectomy to treat constrictive pericarditis. Shortly after, my lungs partially collapsed, requiring bilateral pleurodesis—another painful and high-risk procedure.
Despite everything, I kept fighting.
In January 2025, my mom—my hero—donated her kidney to me. She was a perfect match, and her selfless act gave me another chance at life.
But even after that, complications continued. In October 2025, I underwent a second pericardiectomy, and doctors discovered that my epicardium also needed to be stripped—making an already complex surgery even more extensive.
Today, I am still facing serious ongoing complications. I continue to struggle with heart-related issues and ascites—fluid buildup in my abdomen that requires frequent draining procedures. I am also battling pancytopenia, a condition where my blood cell counts are dangerously low, increasing my risk of infections, fatigue, and bleeding.
My recovery is far from over, and each step forward comes with new challenges.
Many of the treatments, medications, and specialized care I need are not fully covered by insurance. The costs of medical care, transportation, proper nutrition, and rehabilitation continue to grow.
I am doing everything I can to keep moving forward, but I cannot do this alone.
Your support—whether through a donation or by sharing my story—means more than words can express. It allows me to focus on healing and gives me hope for a more stable future.
Thank you for being part of my journey.
With gratitude,
Chris <3
