May 18, 206: SHAMEFUL! The Detroit Tigers legal department has denied reinstating Chris' Cobra benefits to assist with medical care. This has also caused Advent Health Orlando to place a hold on the kidney donor wait list since Chris does not have insurance coverage for prescriptions/medicines.

As of today, May 8, 2026, a resolution is still pending to reinstate Chris’ Cobra benefits. The decision at this point is fully at the hands of his former employer, Detroit Tigers. They were contacted on May 5th. The media has been contacted to cover this story.

My nephew is facing a critical medical crisis. He is on dialysis 10–12 hours every day, and now his access to essential care is at risk due to an insurance failure beyond his control.

His insurance counselor at DaVita failed to notify the American Kidney Fund about changes to his COBRA premiums, which caused his coverage to lapse. Because of this, two critical specialist appointments—hematology and cardiology, including a heart ultrasound and stress test—have been canceled.

The Detroit Tigers have the authority to re-instate Cobra benefits that have lapsed.

He was forced to pay out of pocket for phosphorus binders, medication that helps prevent dangerous calcium buildup in his arteries. He may also lose access to his weekly doctor visits, which are essential to managing his condition.

Despite repeated attempts to contact the American Kidney Fund, it took a week to receive a response, and they have stated they cannot expedite his case.

Funds raised will go directly towards immediate medical bills, medication, and weekly injections to help restore and maintain his care.
