Chris Mukiama Funeral Fund

Dear Family and Friends,

The Mukiama family is bereaved and saddened beyond measure. They have lost a son, a brother and a friend.  Let's show our love and support for Mumbi, Esther, Pam , Donna, Mwambi and their Parents.

We are raising funds to assist the family with travel and funeral expenses. We thank you very much for your help.

Chris was funny, kind and super talented. He was happiest cooking and did so often. He studied culinary arts at Keiser University in Melbourne, FL. He was happy to be pursuing his dreams but every so often a destructive force would threaten his efforts. He would struggle with bouts of depression and began to hate being away from home. His conversations would sometimes go dark and we knew we had to get him back home.

Chris was happy to be back in Kenya. He had his ups and downs in the years that followed but no matter how low he got, he always got back up. As mentioned before, he loved cooking and always found his way back to the kitchen. It was his happy place.

During the week of March 11th, Chris had an interview at Alba Hotel in Nairobi. Meeting Chris was synonymous with liking and then loving him. So it came as no surprise that he progressed to the second interview. He would have nailed this as well, for sure, because Chris in the kitchen was pure magic!

That second interview would never happen. On Saturday, March 16th, Chris died at the hand of his depression. It showed itself without warning, leaving us devastated and full of questions we’ll never get answers to.

Depression is real. Depression is a disease. Depression deserves the investment of time and money, in research, treatment and awareness. It is as much a disease as cancer or heart disease.

Chris was a bright light in our lives. We'll always remember his charming personality and disarming smile. The recipes he shared with us will make the kitchen a happy place for us too.

Rest well Hommie, we love you forever!

p.s. - Chris' sisters called him "Hommie", a nickname that stuck since childhood.

For those in Nairobi, please join the family this Friday, March 22 at 5pm for prayers and planning. The meeting will be at Life Restoration Ministries Church in Kileleshwa, Githunguri Road.
