Mike Jones is the owner of Mike's Chicago Dog and more! Located in downtown Asheboro, NC. He grew up on the North side of Chicago so naturally, he's a life-long Cubs fan. About 14 years ago, he moved to Asheboro. Two years ago, he invested his retirement into opening the restaurant.
Last month, September 2015, Mike was experiencing some chest congestion. He ended up in the hospital for a few days, receiving some much-needed rest along with antibiotics to clear his lungs. During this hospital stay, doctors discovered a spot in his lungs. The first step was to clear up the congestion, that way, doctors could see the spot more clearly. This is where Mike reached his first obstacle. Mike does not have health insurance. He is currently working with Randolph Hospital and he is waiting to hear back about financial assistance so that he can get a PET scan. After that, the doctors will have a better idea of how to proceed.
Now, here is where we come in. On behalf of his family and friends, we are asking for your help. The one certainty is that he will have out-of-pocket medical expenses; we just don't know how much. He is a proud man and he doesn't like asking for help. If you ask me, I think he believes it's a sign of weakness.
Another blow came when he spent over $3,000 in preparation of the Fall Festival here in Asheboro, only to have it cancelled by a rough wind and rain storm. That $3,000 could have paid for the PET scan but as always, Mike puts the restaurant, and his customers, first!
Even though we are not his blood family, we are his NC family. We are asking you to help us raise enough money for Mike's out-of-pocket medical expenses so thathe doesn't have to sell or close the restaurant. He has enough friends and family here to help him every step of the way. Even if you cannot donate money, he can always use prayers as well.
If things go as planned, he will get a PET scan within the next few weeks and hopefully even have surgery to either remove the spot or to take a biopsy of it. After that, we'll know more.
