PWHS Chemo Ducks
Donation protected
Most people today know at least one person who has been diagnosed with cancer. It is a painful and tiring experience that threatens lives every single day. For children, the whole process of chemotherapy and having cancer is even more stressful.
We are a group of eight students from Port Washington High School, and we have been given the opportunity to make a difference in our community through the Kapco Challenge, a month long event that allows students from local high schools to make a difference. This “difference” can be anything we choose, and our group chose to support children undergoing chemotherapy through a charity called Chemo Ducks. These stuffed ducks are equipped with the same port that children undergoing chemo have, and these ports allow kids to receive medication without having multiple shots everyday. The children are able to play “doctor” on their ducks by mimicking the process of administering these medications through the port via syringe. Chemo Ducks allow the child to feel more relaxed, are a source of happiness, and give the child a chance to feel more in control of a part of their life in which they have little control over. They become an integral part of these kids chemotherapy process. Chemo Ducks are already in 5 Wisconsin hospitals and 45 of the 50 states. They are a staple at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin located in Madison, and we hope to also bring them a little closer to home in their Milwaukee location.
At $30 per duck, we hope to raise $7500 for 250 ducks, which will give each child undergoing chemotherapy at Children’s Milwaukee location a duck to cuddle and care for throughout their treatment process. Thank you for your generosity, any donation amount would be greatly appreciated in our effort to reach out goal.
