Hi, my name is Athena Capacite. I am fundraising for my cousin Lana Macariola. She is just 18 years old. Yesterday, I received the news that she had suffered a major stroke and she had to be rushed to surgery. She underwent a very risky surgery. She was diagnosed with a Brain AVM which stands for Brain Arteriovenous Malformation it is a tangle of blood vessels that connects arteries and veins in the brain. The arteries and veins in an arteriovenous malformation can rupture, causing bleeding into the brain or spinal cord. She had at least 10 clots in her brain. They opened her skull and completed the operation. The surgeon removed 90 mL of blood from her brain. They removed a lot of the clots but now they need to get to the cause of the clots, so they have to operate again. She had a 5-10% chance of survival but after the surgery she has a higher chance. She was at a 6 coma score and now it has been fluctuating between an 8-9, which means she is responsive. Once she has a consistent score of 8, they are either going to do an embolization or cauterize to seal all AVM. Only after it's sealed will she be safe. If they do an embolization it costs Php 100,000 per vessel or about $1,820 USD. We don't know how many vessels. At 11 am Eastern time the doctor updated us and the surgery was successful and Lana had responded. But she has to have another surgery to keep her out of danger. I am knocking on each and everyone's hearts to please help my cousin and her family so that they don't have to worry about the medical bills and just focus on taking care of Lana.
