Chantz’s Epilepsy Surgery

First of all, we want to thank everyone for their continued support through Chantz’s journey. Be it friends, family, or even strangers we've met along the way, we are forever grateful for you all!
As many know, Chantz has recently started having seizure activity again after an amazing 17 months of seizure free life. We knew it would eventually come down to the medication not working any more due to him having drug resistant epilepsy.
The next step for him to have the best quality of life is to have resection surgery. The surgeon will remove the right frontal lobe where the malformation is. The chances of any long term damage are very low at 0-3%. Also, this surgery would give Chantz a 70% chance of becoming completely seizure free without any medication at all. The surgeon and the medical team are very confident in this procedure as well as Chantz's long term outcome.
We will be going to Cincinnati Children's Hospital on August 28th to do a 24 hour EEG to confirm that there has not been any change in seizures since last years testings. Following will be brain surgery on September 23rd.
Chantz will be expected to stay in the ICU for the first 24 hours following surgery. Depending on pain tolerance and healing progress, Chantz could be in the hospital up to seven days. He will then come home with extreme limitations anywhere from six to eight weeks depending on recovery progress with multiple follow up appointments throughout that time frame.
If you do feel a want to help out, it will go towards our out of pocket deductible as well as missed time from work to help Chantz during surgery and with his recovery.
