From Crafted Cocktails to Casting Lines — My 12-Month Sober Goal

I’ve worked as a bartender since 2001.

Over the years, I’ve created cocktails that won awards, built bar concepts from the ground up, mentored new bartenders, and collaborated with some of the top brands in the industry.

Bartending wasn’t just a job — it was my passion, my identity, and my escape.

But while the drinks were polished and the smiles came easy, I was quietly unraveling inside.

Six months ago, I made the hardest choice of my life:

I got sober. And I’ve stayed sober.

Now, I’m fighting every day to reach 12 months clean — and to mark that milestone, I’ve set myself a dream goal:

A tuna fishing trip.

Not a getaway, but a powerful symbol of growth, healing, and change.

Every recovery coin I receive from AA, I’m turning into a fishing lure. I’ll cast each one into the sea — reminders of the struggle, the steps, and the strength it took to earn them.

This trip isn’t just about fish.

It’s about transformation.
