Carmen's Vet Care
We don't ask for donations for specific cats very often, but now we need your support more than ever.
See pictured here our beloved Carmen. She came to us as a rescue kitty from a kill shelter in NYC. When she arrived, we knew she had eye problems, but we believed that after a week or two of special drops in her eyes she would be able to see, have a good quality of life and eventually be adopted into a forever home.
Unfortunately this was not the case. Not more than a week into her stay with us, her eyes were deteriorating and we rushed her to our vet who luckily has a top notch eye specialist available. Carmen was reevaluated and sent back to us with different drops and a prayer that she would improve. It didn't happen....back to the vet. This time because she had developed ulcers and we feared the worst....loss of one or both eyes.
Luckily our eye specialist hit upon the right combination of medications and her ulcers are slowly improving and she is feeling so much better!! The pain is lessening, she is eating like a champ and purring up a storm!
Now here comes the tricky part. Carmen has been staying at the vet for over a week because she needs these eye medications every 2 hours and we can not provide that type of care. Carmen is fighting so we are committed to helping her win this fight. Our vet bill is rising and to date we have spent over $3000, the medications are expensive as are the 24 hour care she is receiving.
Please help us! We have over 100 cats in our care and need to be able to utilize our donations wisely, but we can't give up on Carmen who wants to get well. The good news is the vet stay will hopefully be coming to an end once her meds can be administered 4 times a day. She will then be fostered by one of our volunteers.
