On May 6th, I received the call no mother ever wants to receive. It was the hospital calling to tell me my beautiful daughter was in a life threatening accident. Read her story below. I am not one to ask for help, but we NEED it. In the three weeks since her hospital release we have acquired over 6,000 in expenses. Please share our fundraiser, whether you are able to donate or not. Thank you for reading, sharing, and thank you to all of those who have already participated in helping Carly recover and supporting our family.
An instant can impact a life for better or worse, and with that comes opportunity for learning, for healing or for surrender and defeat. On May 5th, life in Carly’s body changed significantly. Around 11pm in Nevada City her steering column in her truck failed, causing a head on collision into a semi-truck. Carly went unconscious in the moment of impact, and not waking up until days had passed. Carly spent 9 days total in the hospital, 7 of which were in the trauma ICU. Upon waking, Carly got the story of what her time unconscious was like. She had been pinned in her vehicle. After paramedics were able to get her out of her truck, she was taken by ambulance to Grass Valley Hospital, but upon arrival it was determined her injuries were too significant for that hospital...so she was airlifted to Sutter- Roseville Trauma ICU Center, and immediately was placed into a medically induced coma, and put on a ventilator. In surgery, she had a chest tube put in due to a punctured lung and her femur break treated by having a rod from her hip to knee along with several pins placed . She was removed from the ventilator on May 7th, and her chest tube was removed May 8th. The rods and pins in her femur bone are permanent. Her other breaks beside her femur being split vertically in half are 4 broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and a broken sternum. She also fractured her mandible, zygomatic arch, occipital lobe, spine c1-4, as well as injuries to both cartodid artery, and aortic dissection. To put very simply, Carly is very lucky to be alive, to be working towards being able to heal and walk again. It’s going to take the help and support of her friends and community to make this time even just a bit easier on her, while she uses the depths of her strength to commit towards her own health and healing. In addition the trauma and pain of her accident, she has been forced to have to leave her beloved apartment due to the fact that there are so many stairs to have to get in and out of it, this means on top of healing she has to find a new space to call home. It’s time to work together to show our friend that we are present, and able to do what we can to lift her up and encourage the strength, love, and positivity that she has shown to us so many times. Carly is a light of love so many of us have had the joy of getting to know, and donations big or small are of upmost importance and deeply appreciated during this time. Not only does it support Cary’s physical healing, but it allows for her the chance to emotionally heal from this as well - the fear of trying to make ends meet in the midst of a pandemic and being injured from head to toe is not one that any person should take on their own. Carly had to move from her apartment because of her inability to climb stairs. Having to leave her apartment also means, she lost her job as property manager which gave free rent in exchange for management of the complex. Carly also supported herself by working on various farms in the county. She will not be able to return to any of her jobs for months. Due to the accident none of this is possible now. She will require 3-6 months healing. She is unable to do any physical work. She is currently staying in an air bnb where she is able to have nursing care daily. Everyday she has either a nurse, physical therapist and or occupational therapist come to the house for care. It will be long road to recovery but we are so hopeful and thank for that all of her injuries should heal given the right treatment and time necessary. Although her health insurance has covered the majority of the medical expenses her inability to work/ needing to support new accommodations/ the remanding medical bills we have set up this GoFundMe in hopes to help the accruing debt through her +/-6month recovery.
