In honor of Marilyn Rowland: A request to help the Caring Hearts Facility
I’m hoping and praying that I can find the right words to convey what I’m feeling. Writing is not my forte. Helping others is my passion, as was my mom’s. Mom worked all her life to make life easier for others. She trained as a nurse, volunteered for Head Start, pushed for Special Education programs in schools (especially for my brother) and worked many years as a volunteer for Hospice.
The reason for writing this letter is to ask for your help. Caring Hearts was the home where Mom lived for the last 14 months of her life. She had so many cognitive and physical needs during this time and the staff of Caring Hearts was truly amazing. Not just because it was “their job.” It was because they truly cared. It is such a tough job, speaking from past experience!
As we have just past the one year anniversary of mom’s passing, I would like to turn my grief to good. However, I/we need help. For most businesses, making a profit is their top priority. For Caring Hearts, caring for the residents and supporting the staff is theirs. Nevertheless, they have expenses too. When I shared my desire to help with the owner, Olivia Velasquez, I asked her to give me a wish list. Here it is.
Resurface and widen the pathway to the house.
Add a patio area for residents to enjoy the outdoors.
Resurface the driveway.
These things may sound minor but are so important in transporting the residents safely back and forth and enables them to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. It lightens their spirits and brings them joy. Isn’t that what they need at this time in their lives?
I would love to see if others would help contribute to a GoFund Me account to make these wishes come true. We are looking at an estimate of 12,500 for the needed work. Please consider assisting to honor the memory of Marilyn, as well as the staff at Caring Hearts, whose jobs are invaluable in our society.
