LOSS OF A GENTLE GIANT

As many know my amazing larger than life dad passed away suddenly 06/02/21.  He was my best friend.

He was one of those guys that everyone knew and the one who always knew a guy.

If we needed something done Dad was always the one to help or find someone to help. He had the biggest heart. He never liked asking for help. Ever. He was the helper, the giver, the saver.  He would give those people who were down on their luck a chance. He would be their mentor, teacher and best friend.

Those society would over look and reject he would them a give chance.  Through my entire life, he was the guy who would volunteer for bingo, donate to the local basketball team, give us kids money to give someone standing at the off ramp of the expressway , tip wait staff well over 20%.

He was the guy who called everyone to say, hey just checking in. How is your family? He truly cared. He truly wanted to know.

Unfortunately due to Covid, like so many, he had been out of work for over a year and each and every day it weighed in him because my dad was a work horse and a provider. He struggled. He struggled with his lack of ability to provide for my mom. He felt his purpose in life was to take care of  his kids and my mom. He felt so defeated this past year and a half out of work that he was not able to provide for my mom like he always had. I think it brought not only worry and anxiety into his life, but it broke his heart.

We would chat every day about things that could be done to move forward, what we could do to move forward…he always would tell me I need to take care of Mom.That’s my job.

Dad always had a plan.

This was organized for my mom To help her with expenses moving forward.  Unfortunately my mom is the one who found  my dad not breathing. She tried exhaustively to wake him up, get a reaction, anything until she felt he was cold to the touch and not responding.  She called emergency personnel but it was to no avail.

She is now a widow, without my dad guiding the ship at the healm. I am trying to help my dad continue what he had been doing all his life and trying so hard for the pst 16 months to do—take care of my mom. He would hate that I am asking for help. He would hate he could not do it himself.

We truly are at a loss with the sudden departure of dad and I just want to try and help ease my mom’s worries. Anything will help. Thank you for reading. Thank you for prayers. Thank you for your kindness.

Humbly,
