Rick Anderson, as my older cousin and lifelong mentor, has always been my hero. And for the last twenty one years he has been a hero and a firefighter for the City of West Palm Beach as well. Over the the years he has risked his life to save others countless times... and now he needs US TO HELP HIM!!!
Rick was recently diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer at the age of 48 , a result of a very rare neuroendocrine cancer. The primary tumor has not been found. Rick 's liver is riddled with these tumors, and there are now lesions on his pancreas. *Update- pancreatic lesions are benign! Yea!*
His oncologist has told him that his best hope for survival is treatment at the Massachusetts General Hospital Neuroendocrine and Pituitary Clinical Center. This poses huge financial hurdles for Rick and his family, however. Travel and lodging is only one aspect- insurance issues come into play as well. To top it all off, Rick and Vicki have four children at home, with the youngest being only five years old.
*Update- 12/17/14- Rick and his wife Vicki are in Boston Mass. right now to consult with his surgeon and oncologist.*
*Update- 12/23/14- Rick was met with the worst of news at his consults in Boston. He is now back at home in West Palm Beach with his wife, Vicki, and their four kids, Richard-21, Jason and Justin-17, and little Michael- 5.
