Project Janet for Cannon!

Hi, I’m Cathy Cannon—public school teacher, writer, political strategist, and the woman most likely to explain the collapse of America with a coffee in one hand and an uncombed hair first thing in the morning.

I’ve spent the last 15 years teaching everything from AP Government to AP Economics in a system that demands miracles and rewards martyrdom. I’ve done it with joy, sarcasm, and more caffeine than is medically advisable—but the truth is, the job is breaking me.

I’ve been teaching in classrooms where the thermostat regularly hits 80°—and no, that’s not a metaphor for political heat. The air conditioning is literally broken and has been for 4 years now. And this year, after pushing through unrelenting pressure and chronic pain, I landed in the hospital. The system isn’t just unsustainable—it’s actively dangerous.

So I’m asking for help. I’m desperate to take a year-long sabbatical to heal, to breathe, and to build the next phase of my life’s work. I just need a chance, a lifeline … and that’s where I need you.

At the center of this shift is Project Janet—a philosophical, political, and slightly sci-fi exploration of what it means to teach, think, and remember in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. It’s part memoir, part manifesto, and part tech-fueled fever dream. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when a public school teacher develops a brainchild after watching The Good Place one too many times—this is it.

During this sabbatical, I’ll be turning my daily patented coffee rants into actual content—Substack essays, TikToks, annd be able to focus more on the podcast. I’ll finally have time to read all the books, unpack all the shows, and break down the world like I do for my students—except now, the whole internet gets a seat in the classroom.

This isn’t a business (yet). It’s not a product (yet). It’s the ground floor of something honest and necessary: one loud woman with a deep brain, a sharp tongue, and a lot to say about the way we live, learn, and forget.

Your support helps me cover rent, food, and basic survival while I step out of a system that nearly crushed me. You’re not just helping a teacher rest—you’re helping a thinker speak.

If you’ve ever said, “We need more voices like hers out there,” now’s your chance to make that happen. Let’s turn coffee rants into Cannon (get it … ok I’ll stop).
