Camp Awakening Fundraiser
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Tommy Larson.
For the past seven years I have attended an overnight summer camp in Ontario, Canada, called Kilcoo. Kilcoo has provided me with some of the best experiences of my life, including going on week-long canoe trips in Algonquin Park. During the time I've spent at Kilcoo, I have made lifelong friendships and learned the importance of independence and resourcefulness. Kilcoo has had a big hand in making me who I am today and has nurtured my love for the outdoors.
Separately, over the past two years, I have become involved in a local non-profit organization in Connecticut called Backyard Sports. In the program, I volunteer to coach kids with both mental and physical disabilities in various sports. I have grown to love being able to work and help these young athletes.
At Kilcoo, there is a branch of a non-profit charity organization called Camp Awakening. It is important to me because it combines two things that I love: the outdoors and helping kids who face challenging disabilities. Camp Awakening offers summer camp programs that give youth with physical disabilities the opportunity to gain independence, make lasting friendships, develop confidence, and accomplish things that they never thought possible. Camp Awakening partners Kilcoo to offer a wide range of incredible activities and a dedicated accessible cabin.
It is amazing to see these young kids partake in camp activities and develop close relationships between themselves and other campers. The expressions of joy and excitement that light up these kids faces when provided this chance are truly unmatched. I am fundraising in order to allow the opportunity for a few kids to be able to attend the Camp Awakening program, and I hope that you will help my cause.
My parents will match every donation made.
