Cab Girl: Frontline Warrior

My name is Jodi Hillhouse. I am a DOT cab driver in Omaha, Nebraska. As you might imagine, business has been extremely slow the past month, I have spent everything on disinfectant and sanitizer, and I have no bill money as a result. I could have quit for Kroger, where at least I wasn't in a confined space, and was being paid instead of paying to risk myself. If there are no cabbies though, a lot of people don't go to dialysis and chemo. The blind can't get to the store or to the local toilet paper factory that employs the blind. Many store, hospital, and fast food employees are taxi dependent as well. SOMEONE has to do it. Recently some taxi drivers were asked of they would be willing to start transferring infected Covid19 patients in modified cabs. As you can imagine most would not do it. I volunteered. We are assured we will also have protective gear. I believe they intend to provide it, but I am skeptical that it will be available for them to do so. I mean when other cities spiked they didn't have enough for hospital workers. I am just a cabbie. Yes there will be a bonus involved but it is barely enough to catch up the bills before things can be shut off again and it isn't enough for the money to make me risk my life. Especially as I have no healthcare. I am doing it because it has to be done and because I have nobody at home to infect. I distrust the projected numbers and think it will get worse. If I might die from it anyway I might as well go down trying to yank other people out of Ronas jaws in the manner I have the means at hand to do. Also...fuck it. I might live and if I do, it will be a kick ass story. Anyway..I have a couple of months before eviction and shutoffs might happen and if I last that long I hope this will at least pay enough to cover that. In the meantime though, I would like help getting funds to scrounge for safety supplies in case they cannot actually be provided. I also just may need help getting in gaps in survival money till the mission money hits. If I get enough after that, I would use it for some personal care and hygiene items.. And a wishlist item if I get enough would be a new mattress. Mine is collapsing enough it is seriously messing with my back and that is no good for a driver. Anyway the goal amount is arbitrary. This early in I have no idea how much this will cost. Could be more could be less. I am new at apocalypse prep. I know times are SUPER HARD for a lot of people right now...but if you are fortunate enough that your income is unaffected, please consider assisting. Even a small amount is more than I have. If you want to help, but are one of the fellow Americans also suffering financially at this time, even sharing this goes a long way. If you are hurting enough that you can't afford to reshare because of your own fundraiser...you can help by just making sure to give a shout out for the cabbies when people are talking about essential service workers. Anyway. If you made it this far, thank you for your time.
