We are the COP Bike Ride!

A giant bike ride, a gigantic cycling relay, from the COP30 (Brazil ) to the COP31 (Türkiye ). An international citizens initiative to stress the relevance and potential of cycling as a powerful means to reduce transport related CO2 emissions.

What are we doing?

We are giving a voice to all cyclists or want to be cyclists, in order to give everyone safer infrastructures.

- In our bags we carry ten concrete proposals, ready to be implemented.

- On our way from Belém to Antalya, we will meet dozens of elected representatives to choose 3 actions to promote cycling.

✍️ They will sign an engagement letter that will be brought to the representatives at the COP31, whom we will ask to do the same.

Why did we choose cycling ?

24% of the worldwide carbon footprint is from transport ✈ (Source: AIE, 2021).

75% of travels in cities are below 3km and 42% of deliveries could be done in cargo bike.

➡️ The opportunities to reduce our carbon footprint through biking are huge !

Other biking benefits ✨ :

➡️ Health : -10% risk of cardiovascular disease, -30% risk for type 2 diabetes, -30% risk of death by cancer (WHO).

➡️ Social cost : Cities could save up to €400 billion/year by adopting a cycle network like Copenhagen (DeutschlandFunk Nova).

➡️ Productivity : Cyclists have up to 12% lower risk of sick leave, with 4.5 fewer days absent per year (European Commission).

Why do we need your help ?

To reach COP31 in Türkiye from COP30 in Brazil, we need to cross the Atlantic. Unlike cycling, this part comes with essential costs beyond what can reasonably be expected from an individual person to contribute:

• Sailing boat charter & crew contribution ⛵️

• Harbour costs & maintenance

• Food & supplies at sea

• Safety equipment & insurance ⚓

✅ After receiving the banner from the crossing of the Atlantic, European cyclists will get to COP31 overland and will need a contribution to the currently relatively expensive accommodation in Antalya!

Finally, there are many other (non-personal) expenses to enhance the project as a whole, such as on the documentary we are producing that need to meet certain quality standards in order to be screened to a wider audience and have a bigger impact.
