CLA Therapy Dog

The 4th graders at Clive Learning Academy have been working on a project to get a therapy dog for CLA. The students presented their research to Director Bocook, a panel of experts, and their parents. They were approved to get a therapy dog for CLA. Their next steps are to fundraise enough money to pay for the therapy dog's training and ongoing expenses. 

While we are positive the dog will have a great impact on the CLA community, here's what our students have to say: 

"Research proves that our therapy dog will help teach all students how to improve on their reading. The therapy would help with reading because if a student was reading in front of their class, or another class, they could practice reading to the therapy dog before they read in front of that class. Even if the child stumbles over words when they’re practicing with the therapy dog, they would not get judged one bit because the dog doesn’t care if they mess up! The dog’s just there to listen. Helping kids with reading is one of the ways that your donation would help every child at CLA!"

"Another way the therapy dog would benefit CLA is for good behavior. The children would get rewarded and get to do something fun with the dog. For example, say that someone was behaving correctly. One of the teachers in the building could tell them their reward, what time, and other children who might want to be able to do the stuff with the therapy dog so they’ll behave well too. Students at CLA would become more respectful, responsible, safe, and caring! Children would becoming better with their behavior with the help of a therapy dog. That is why we think you should partner with and support us."

"If a student doesn’t have any friends, the therapy dog could be their friend. For example, if there is a new student at school and they do not have any friends, the therapy dog could be their first friend and it could help them make other friends if they need help to learn how. If there is a shy student in a class the therapy dog could help them not to be shy so they can make friends."
