Our team of four; Amy Czuczman, Emma Fudge, Ross Walker and Cecil Ash, placed first at the Atlantic Engineering Competition representing St. Franics Xavier University in Consulting Engineering, qualifying for nationals in Calgary March 3-5 2017. It is unlikely that first and second year students such as ourselves qualify to compete at the national level, which is why we are particularly interested in capitalizing on this opportunity.
Emma and Ross are both first year engineering students who hold positions as first year representatives on the St. Francis Xavier Engineering Council. Emma is an active participant on both the St. FX intramural volleyball and basketball teams, and is interested in pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering. Ross is enjoying his time as a first-year student and is considering furthering his studies in Electrical Engineering. Cecil is a second-year engineering student as well as Vice President of the Engineering Society and hopes to complete an MBA after finishing his Industrial Engineering degree. Amy is President of the St. FX Engineering Society as well as Vice President Outreach on the Atlantic Council of Engineering Students. She is interested in the field of Aerospace Engineering and believes that the opportunity to network with like-minded individuals would be invaluable. We believe attending this competition will benefit our endeavors as professionals as well as student leaders in our undergraduate education.
As we are all full time students, we are unable to independently fund this competiton, but we do not want to miss out on this incredible opportuinty. We estimate that flights to Calgary from Halifax will likely cost $700 and registration fees, which includes hotel, are $300. Therefore, we are estimating the cost of the trip to be around $1000 for each of us. We have already raised over $500, but are still a ways away from our goal.
