CALaborate - (verb) to work together for Cal.
Callaghan (Cal) is gorgeous, cheeky, chatty, sensitive and inquisitive.
Cal was born in 2008 and suffered a hypoxic episode at birth - he was born without breathing. This has resulted in brain damage to the basal ganglia (the part of the brain that controls movement) and a subsequent diagnosis of severe Choreoathetoid Cerebral Palsy (GMFCS 4/5). Callaghan is affected in a quadriplegic manner meaning his entire body functions differently as a result of having cerebral palsy. This has an impact on Callaghan's ability to sit, crawl, stand, walk, talk, play and provide self-care. As a result Callaghan requires specialist equipment for all aspects of his daily life. This equipment is extremely expensive and while a lot of it is funded - some is not. Some of the equipment Callaghan requires to lead an independent and fulfilling life such as computer technology, is not seen as essential and therefore not funded by Enable NSW - thee government funding body that has funded Cal's wheelchair and communication device.
We have created this gofundme page in order to allow those who wish to help, a means to do so. We are hugely appreciative of all the love and support shown to us over the years and thank you in advance for your ongoing support of us as a family and especially of Cal.
