For anyone that knows me or has been over my house in the past few weeks, months, years, they know that I have had to deal with living next door to constant construction issues that have made the foundation of my house get worse over time.
Recently on the 6th of August 2016, a few days ago, after over a year of construction of some kind from both sides, my chimney collapsed from all of the impacts accumulated over time. The collapsed bricks fell from the 4th floor, through the 3rd, 2nd and 1st floor respectively, and out the side of the house essentially leaving my house in an emergency state, with a vacate property notice on the home by the end of the night.
My family has owned this home since the 50's in an ever changing neighboorhood, through the good and bad times and I do not want to see it lost because of the city wanting to rush my family into unrealistic time frames of less than 12 hours, and ridiculous cost for repairs, engineers, contractors, etc.
Any money accumulated would go towards the cost of the collapse, fence bulding to zone off the property, stabilizing the home and eventually demolishing and hopeful rebuilding of my family home, as long as the many things lost from the collapse as well as not being able to go inside to retrieve even the smallest of things.
For the past few days, I have been in meetings with city officials scrambling to get things done that sound simple, but apparently cost astronomical prices. Futhermore my house is not the only one affected on the block as there have been multiple incidents involving construction mishaps and my family and I have recieved the worse of it without a place to call home now.
If you would like to help, I would appreciate it and any amount is fine, no matter how small. I do not believe any of this is covered by our insurance so I am in a bind and every day I am approached with a new deadline of what I need to get done by various city officials.
You can message me and I will answer any questions and have uploaded some pics to show you the extent of the damage. Thank you
Jamal Burke
