On Wednesday, October 23 at around 3pm, my brother-in-law, Bryan, was found semiconscious at the bottom of a concrete stairwell after not showing up for work. We think he was there for several hours before being found.
He was rushed to a local Trauma Center, where he underwent a 5 hour surgery to address two brain bleeds and remove a piece of his skull to give the brain room to swell. He is currently sedated and intubated in an effort to keep his intercranial pressure stable, and is moving his extremities, breathing over the ventilator and trying to remove it when they lessen his sedation, which are all good signs. However, he sustained life-altering injuries and remains in critical condition with a long road to recovery ahead of him.
In addition to an extensive hospital stay ahead, Bryan will likely require rehabilitation once he regains consciousness. He will be unable to work for the foreseeable future, which will significantly impact his income. Prior to his accident, Bryan worked full-time for a local pizzeria and recently returned to school, pursuing his Paralegal Cerificate at Suffolk County Community College. He is underinsured, so managing medical bills and maintaining his household will be incredibly challenging in the coming months.
Please consider donating to help Bryan and his family with medical bills and his loss of income, as this experience will undoubtedly change his life forever. Thank you for your generosity and support during this difficult time.
