INTRO
I have been wanting to be a doctor since in middle school, 7th grade. Seriously, you can ask my mom. Even with that in mind, It is surreal that in May I will be finishing undergraduate school and moving towards the dream that has been playing over and over in my head of applying for and attending medical school. However, before any of that can happen I have a few hurdles I need to get over. Before I explain those hurdles in a budget table, let me take you back a little bit.
My parents instill in me a couple of things:
1. Work ethic – work hard and give what you do 110% and you will know you have done the best you can do. Many of you have followed my story most often through my mother’s postings on Facebook. It is through my hard work that I was in the top 20 graduating seniors of my high school (Pebblebrook in Mableton, Ga) and it is also through that hard work that I received a scholarship to attend the University Of Cincinnati as a Track and Field|Athlete and currently hold records for the school, that I have been selected as one of the top 100 graduating seniors at the University of Cincinnati, the President of the Minority Association for Pre-Med Students, an Honors College Scholar, a McNair-Scholar and having my research published as an undergrad. Click Here .
Believe me I will carry the concept of hard work with me to medical school and make You proud.
2. There are ways to pay for college, find them and work towards leaving undergraduate school with no debt.
My parents were determined that they would not pay for my college because there are many opportunities to have it paid for you. The road I took was Track and Field as a student athlete. You can get a better idea of why the University of Cincinnati made the investment in me for track by watching this short video. Click Here
My final year however, due to an injury I declined the athletic scholarship. This of course created a huge void in my finances and due to my track schedule there were many courses I was not allowed to take to complete my major (organic chemistry, lab, calculus/physics, etc. ) so I would need to cover the tuition, books, apartment, utilities, gas, food, and any miscellaneous things like prescriptions, etc. but with my final year schedule it would be impossible for me to work and maintain the G.P.A. I need to qualify for medical school. My mom and I found and I applied for academic and STEM scholarship money and along with the help of my parents and grandparents I will leave undergraduate school debt free.

3. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
There is a difference in asking for and hand out and a hand up.
I learned early on the importance of asking the teachers in my life for help. It was drilled into us kids that the person with the answers stands at the front of the room, ask them. Sometimes other students would get annoyed with me saying that I was asking too many questions or making the class feel some kind of way. My parents taught me to tune out the nah sayers and get what you need to succeed.
It is likely that I like most medical students will not be able to fully avoid the $300,000 to $500,000 debt that medical school costs, but along the way there are other expenses/debt I can offset with your help.

My family has truly helped me throughout my high school and undergraduate years. They would be one of the few parents that would follow me across the country and be in the stands (or in my mom's case running in the stands) at my track meets and now they are preparing for my graduation, so they will have the expense of invitations, a class ring, cap and gown, graduation pictures and so much more. They will also have the expense of hotels and travel expenses back and forth to Cincinnati long before my graduation date of May 4th so they can attend the additional ceremonies I will be given awards in. For example, on January 24th I will be given an award for being one of the top 100 seniors graduating from University of Cincinnati, May 2nd will be my Honors Student Graduation. Then throughout April and May I am in line to receive additional awards; the McNair Scholars Banquet/Recognition, Presidential Leadership Medal of Excellence and hopefully the C-Ring award and I want them to come and see me receive the awards to know that all they have done for me has paid off, and therefore I can't expect them to cover all these additional expenses and this is where I need your help, family and friends. That is why this GoFundMe page was established.
I would appreciate it if family & friends would share this with those we are connected to but, I don't have a social media contact for them.
This is a breakdown of the additional cost I will need your help with. Please note that I am applying for fee assistance, but I don’t want to count on that since I have been turned down for other financial requests.

CONCLUSION
I have always had an innate passion to serve the underserved and underrepresented, and to also be the role model that can pay it forward to my community. Next semester I will be prepping and taking the MCAT, taking tours to medical schools and transitioning into the next stage of my life-but I need your help. Between the expenses that it takes to prepare for the MCAT and the cost to travel to the various institutions to tour, my hands are becoming tied and I need my village to help me.
By helping me, you in turn will be helping others. Why? Because, I want to be a Doctor. I want to help people. I want to take care of people. I want to help heal people. I won’t forget that my village/community helped me to move towards my goal of becoming a doctor. I will “Pay it Forward,” and I am asking for your help.
I have been informed that both Meharry Medical College in Nashville and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine are interested in me but need to see my MCAT scores and receive my applications before I will get anything formal. I cannot wait to add those two little letters alongside my name. I cannot wait to cross that stage at the finish line. I cannot wait to give back and help those in need. I will forever remember and be grateful to those who crossed this finish line with me, financially or in the other ways you have been supportive during my journey. Thank you for believing me, pushing me and supporting me thus far! Your help and support are appreciated more than you will ever know.
