Bruce Jackson Legacy CD Funding
Donation protected
Local Veteran Musician, Bruce Jackson, and his band “Moondogs 88” are looking for your assistance.
We are in the last stages of recording a legacy of Bruce's music and are seeking funding to complete the final costs. Those of you who are familiar with Bruce know him for playing, teaching and tuning pianos in and around the Twin Cities music scene for close to fifty years. He has been a member of many well-known Twin Cities bands playing here and around the world and has also been a teacher/mentor for many up and coming young players.
Bruce has always been a prolific writer of original music. During his tenure as a musician, he has collaborated, written and recorded with many different songwriters. His latest collaboration, over the past eight years, has been with his partner-in-life, Beth Ann Dodds. Together they have co-written many great songs. Here is Bruce's bio with a list of his many talents and some of the people he's shared them with:
Bruce Jackson is a multi-instrumentalist playing Piano, Guitar, Accordion, Mandolin, Fiddle, Harmonica, Organ in the genres of Jazz, Bluegrass, Blues, Classical, Country, Ethnic/World, Folk, Latin, and Reggae/Ska. Bruce has also been a six-time recipient of the Minnesota (Midwest) Music Awards.
He's been performing in and around the Twin Cities on piano for over 45 years and has been a member of many popular Twin Cities legendary acts such as; Ipso Facto, Dr. Mambo’s Combo, Doug Maynard, Crossover, Wain McFarlane’s “Jahz”, The New Primitives and his most recent accomplishment, his band, Bruce Jackson & The Moondogs88 Band. He's performed with Kenny G at the Fine Line Music Cafe in downtown Minneapolis and with famous Jazz Pianist, Joe Sample, and the band Seventh Wave. He's entertained audiences around the world while sharing the stage with Tracy Chapman and Sheila Ray Charles, daughter of the Great Ray Charles. His diverse skills in piano improvisation have entertained audiences at major concert venues, private parties, corporate events, weddings, wedding receptions, restaurants, clubs and music festivals. He studied Music Theory and Improvisational Piano with the Great Manfredo Fest and is also a Certified Piano Tuner serving the Metro area.
Bruce’s Story
Bruce was diagnosed with Peritoneal Mesothelioma in 2008. Peritoneal Mesothelioma is a rare cancer (related to asbestos exposure) that affects the lining of the abdominal organs.
Throughout the past 8 years, Bruce has faced many physical and emotional struggles dealing with this disease. He is now facing the (almost) complete shutdown of his digestive system due to multiple tumors invading his small intestines. Bruce is now receiving his nutrition via total parenteral nutrition - a process where he receives nutrients through an IV connected (via a port) to his carotid artery. Bruce recently went through 3 rounds of chemotherapy which proved to be too much for his body to handle. He has decided to stop chemotherapy treatments and focus on quality of life and living "in the now.”
While his illness has slowly progressed over the years, it has not stopped him from getting out and playing music. It is the music in him that keeps him going and gives him the energy to move on. He is an inspiration to many, especially to the members of his band “Moondog88”. Through his passion for music, as a means of continuing forward in life, it has truly inspired those who've shared their talents with him.
Many people have come to Bruce’s aid during the time of his illness through many gracious and thoughtful ways. Recently Dik Shopteau, Engineering and Production Instructor at IPR (Institute of Production & Recording) in Minneapolis, gave Bruce and Moondogs88 the opportunity to come in and record. This recording will feature the songs that he and Beth Ann have written together, plus other originals that Bruce wrote over the years.
To be able to record a life legacy of original songs has been a blessing of greatest proportion. This is not just a recording of a cd, but a labor of love that wants and needs to be shared with the rest of the world. The recording is almost complete, but funding is still needed to meet the final expenses. That is why Bruce and the band are asking for your donation; so this endeavor of a lifelong love can be completed.
We thank you in advance for your participation in this true project of a lifetime and are looking forward to being able to share the wonderful gift of music.
