Support for Debbie

It’s with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Debbie’s beloved Bruce Cusker.

Debbie and Bruce were together for 44 years, marrying in 1980. They welcomed their first child Jeff in that same year, and their second, Dillon in 1998.

In 1996, they started fostering, and have had over 20 young men in and out of their care; with the most recent ones being Jamie, Rocky, Evan, Matthew & Aidan. Bruce loved each and every one of them as if they were his own.

Bruce was known by some as the Grandfather of Football. He coached over a thousand athletes throughout his time with the Vancouver Trojans (1991-1998) & Coquitlam Minor Football (2006-present). Before football Bruce coached Jeff’s soccer team, the Edmonds Soccer Club (1985-1991). His love of coaching was evident; leaving each athlete with a sense of value, purpose, and team spirit.

Bruce was just as dedicated to his life off the field. He was a devoted husband, father and foster parent who beamed with joy and love for those closest to him. He was a hard worker who took pride in his job, often working long hours or out of town. Bruce recently received a personal achievement award for his outstanding performance and accomplishments at Sun Rich Foods Canada.

Yet, Bruce was never too busy to work on creative endeavours from backyard projects to writing children’s books!

The days, weeks, and years ahead without Bruce seem unimaginable and Debbie will have to continue without her best friend by her side. Bruce’s legacy will carry on through his sons and grandchildren.

The Cusker family has given so much to our community and our children over the years, we wish to help support them in this time of grief. All donations will be given directly to Debbie to help stabilize the next while and ease the burden as she moves forward.

Bruce’s creative and charismatic spirit will live on in the memories of those that knew him. Sending strength and love to all of those who are grieving the loss of this wonderful man.
