Brooke has been bravely battling Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome (MALS), a rare and often misunderstood condition where a ligament in the abdomen compresses the celiac artery and surrounding nerves.

Her journey began in late middle school, when she started experiencing severe stomach pain, cramping, nausea, and extreme exhaustion. Over time, even the simplest daily activities — eating a meal, going to work, or spending time with loved ones — became physically and emotionally overwhelming.

Because eating causes intense pain, Brooke’s body has become severely malnourished. In less than 8 months, she has lost over 40 pounds and has been unable to regain the weight.

Like many living with MALS, getting answers was not easy. Brooke spent years going to appointments, undergoing testing, and facing uncertainty. Due to her rapid weight loss and inability to eat, her condition was often misunderstood. At times, she felt discouraged and invisible — fighting a condition others couldn’t see, but she felt every single day.

In October 2024, Brooke finally received a diagnosis. While it brought relief to have answers, it also opened the door to a new challenge — finding proper treatment.

Because MALS is so rare and requires specialized care, Brooke must travel out of state to receive surgery from experienced specialists. This life-changing procedure gives her hope for healing, but it also comes with significant financial strain.

Brooke and her family will be traveling to Seattle in August for her MALS surgery.  During this time, Brooke will be staying in the hospital for 3-5 days after surgery and an additional 1-2 days with her parents close by the hospital before beginning her journey home.  During this time, the expenses will include travel, commute to/from the hospital, lodging, food and loss of Brookes parents wages during this time away.

Expenses include:
• Travel and transportation
• Lodging during surgery and recovery
• Meals and daily necessities
• Lost wages for her parents while they are by her side
