Hi everyone! My name is Brooke Metcalfe and I am seventeen years old, I recently graduated from Paso Robles High School. It has been a heavy burden on my heart for the past two years to decide where I want to go and ultimately what I want to do with the rest of my life. With the help of my friends and family I am proud to announce that I will be going to Cape Town, South Africa for a six month Discipleship Training School, otherwise known as a DTS. This course is made available through a program called Youth With A Mission or Ywam, and will be an amazing journey in terms of growing my relationship with God. Ywam is not only a gateway into the benevolence of missionary life, but is also an accredited university founded on the visions of Loren Cunningham. Loren began to spread the Good News using people of all ages and races. These students were willing and ready to go disciple, to teach, and to learn about God’s grace. Since 1973, this institution has emphasised the importance of evangelism, training, and mercy; that God has not only for its students, but for the world as a whole.
Through this new and exciting experience I hope to gain my spiritual footing in the world and find myself in Christ. I’ve struggled throughout my life trying to define myself, but I’ve decided that the answer to my greatest question, “Who am I” can only be answered through God’s love. In high school, it was extremely hard to focus my time and effort solely on God, however through this Discipleship Training School I truly believe that I will be equipped with the right tools to make myself the person I want and wish to be. By learning more about God, I will learn more about myself along the way. The focus of this particular DTS is to promote a life together by building relationships and to know God and make him known to those who are lost. The trip begins with the lecture phase which will take place in South Africa and will focus on learning about the culture and area all the while diving head first into God’s word and learning about how to be a true disciple. The outreach phase will give me the opportunity to choose a new place to travel to and ultimately be able to use the new knowledge obtained from the lecture phase to go out and make new disciples.
In addition, this course will give me elective credits even if I choose not to attend a Christian University after completing my DTS. However, in order to embark on this journey I will need to raise a grand total of 6,000 dollars, I have raised some money on my own in order to reach this goal. If you can prayerfully consider supporting me in this endeavor I would appreciate it! No one can undertake this on their own.
