✝️My Dream to Drive♿

-MY DREAM TO DRIVE-
This fundraising pursuit to obtain high tech hand controls for my donated van so I can drive independently. My story is one of tragedy but also filled with great hope.
My name is Brittany McClain and I’m from Roy, a small town not to far from the capital of Washington state. On Feb ruary 27th, 2015 I nearly lost my life in a horrific car accident when I was on my way to work midmorning that left me paralyzed from the neck down as a C3-5 quadriplegic at only 24 years old.

(Not one airbag deployed in my vehicle during this accident!)

(There was a divine miracle that the only part of the vehicle that was still intact was where I was sitting.)

(Madigan Military Hospital March 2015 on a ventilator clinging to life as I had stopped breathing on my own many times.)

(After a surgical trach hole was put into my throat to try and see if I could breathe on my own and so they could stick a wire suction device down my throat into my lungs multiple times an hour for suction of fluids building up stopping my breathing.)

(Picture shows the metal support structures that were inserted during the surgery to stabilize my kinked and swollen spinal cord + procedures for taking and replacing vertebrae discs in the neck were done as well.)

I was a very driven, independent, responsible, hard-working, young lady. A daughter, sister, auntie, and dearest friend that brought life and loyalty into my family and all my relationships. Since childhood I grew up knowing I wanted to be a counselor to help people deal with addiction and trauma. As soon as I was old enough I took advantage of the Running Start Program and went on to college to get my degree in Human Services while I was still in high school. Hardships do not discriminate and I never thought I would have to channel everything I learned inward to try and heal myself.
(January 2015 being able to hold my nephew Josh for first second time!)

I have lost the ability to do pretty much everything in life on my own having to relearn how to live and take care of myself all over again.
I still believe that I will be able to touch many lives and what I could help teach people about trauma surpasses what I could of ever learned with only books. Starting from not being able to breathe on my own or even capable of reaching my hands towards my face to do something as simple as to scratch my nose I have come so far.
(Madigan Hospital ICU March 2015 - My big sister and mom.)
(The second time I got to hold my nephew was very surreal.)
(Went back to the scene and made my peace with it so I could gain closure to lessen the pain every time I drive by it leaving it my house.)

(My dication to put more life into this body God has blessed me with.)

As wild as it may sound my goal has never been to walk again even though it is the first thing everyone mentions. There are so many other things in life like even dressing myself or being able to turn in my sleep that I will always feel is more important. I realized early on continuing to focus on the end goal of one day walking again was not getting me anywhere nor adding any substance in my life.

(Below are videos & pictures of my journey to recovery..)
(I made a video every year so others could be a part of my journey.)

In my heart I yearn for the feeling of being included like everybody else, not identical. I do not miss the feeling of walking nearly as much as I desperately miss the emotions associated with being part of something with others.

I close my eyes and envision the day I am able to get in my own vehicle with my free will. Have the freedom to catch a church service even if no one wants to drive me. Go to work gaining feelings purpose again. Be able to support myself without the help of state assistance. Have the ability to go to the grocery store and do my own shopping. To have the opportunity to be included in events enjoying irreplaceable time with family + friends + peers. Have the freedom to go be involved in events with my paralysis community the HERE AND NOW PROJECT , which is a support network made for those to get together and feel included as they surround themselves with people who are going through the same struggles that I do.

This is just a tiny list of things that are possible to somebody who is able to take back the freedom that is promised to those who live in our country..
It is technically a birthright promised to all of us after we reach a certain age so that we are able to create a life filled with success out there in the "real" world. I know my injury has taken away many of the birth rights that you  everyone else uses on a daily basis but with your help I have the opportunity to gain back at least this one!

This support network has genuinely changed my life and given me hope and ambition for the possibilities that are left for my life I would have never known where possible!

Being able to drive will literally be one of the few things I am able to do all on my own without needing the assistance another person. It opens up opportunities for so much growth in my life. I could have the ability to work and the freedom to learn how to take care of myself again financially. The power of just that alone moves mountains in what life I can create and how I can use my testimony to help change the lives of others.
(The beautiful gift of safe transportation from JESUS WAY MAKER MINISTRY! I cannot begin to express my gratitude for such a selfless gift from Brandon Afoa and family! I could write pages of appreciation for the safety this vehicle has provided for me and my family as my old vehicle was very unsafe.) https://www.jesuswaymaker.com

I hope after reading this you are able to understand my need and why I am raising money for a fundraiser as substantial as this one. I can't wait to rejoin the community feeling like an equal, create a life full of purpose outside of my bedroom, and continue enriching everyday by putting all of my pieces back together one step at a time.

I deeply appreciate your interest in my story and I hope you follow my progress as I keep you updated with videos and pictures I post along the way of my recent dedication to go back to therapy and regimented home workouts again after two years.
I am recovering the strength I will desperately need to drive again and I'm excited to have you a part of it. Please help support my “DREAM TO DRIVE!"

No donations are too small and if you are not financially able prayers and shares are equally appreciated!!

MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR INTEREST, LOVE, AND SUPPORT!!!
THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF SOMETHING GREAT! PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR ALL MY UPDATES!!

(Here you can see how much strength I will need to drive and how important my new dedication back to the therapy and working out will be to my driving success so please keep rooting me on because your support helps me succeed. The less stregth I have the more the driving equipment will cost.)

(This driving setup allows you to steer with the right circular revolving pin along with gas and brake with the left handle throttle.)

(These driving controls have try-pins to steer and buttons on the left to press for driving signals etc.)

(This is the device that will allow me to drive in and secure my chair into the driver's seat.)

(This is a extended effortless steering wheel making it easier for quadriplegics like me to grasp and move the steering wheel in circles with more ability.)

(This is a view with the driver seat in place has both seats can be moved and taking out depending on who's driving.)

(Here is a closer look at the design with the try-pin Steering.)

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR INTEREST, LOVE, AND SUPPORT!
