Bring Nurse Luciana Back To The Bedside
Donation protected
Hi my name is Luciana and I'm an ICU nurse. I have three life passions, two of which are yoga and bedside nursing.
Unfortunately, I sustained an ankle injury in June 2023, tearing 3 tendons and 1 ligament. I had surgery 3 months later. And after that I did 5 months of physical therapy. I wasn't able to walk without an orthopedic boot until 9 mo after injury. But my progress plateaued at 4 hours of continuous activity.
An ultrasound showed that significant swelling remained and I received 3 injections to reduce inflammation. I had to return to my boot and ended up needing an urgent MRI to rule out a new tendon-rupture.

I've been asked why I chose to become a nurse instead of a doctor, and it's because I prefer to spend more time with my patients and their visitors.
I've learned to manage my burnout through well-being training, and now I lead workshops where others can also learn to cultivate positive emotions. I'm eager to get back to the bedside. I get joy and fulfillment from encouraging the people around me-patients and coworkers.
The most helpful advice I've received regarding my career is to acknowledge that my everyday experience is my patient's once-in-a-lifetime experience. Since then I've held more hands, given more hugs, and learned more about life. (I learned that from the Anne Clouatre of Advent Health Littleton)
