Bill is currently undergoing treatment for Stage 4 prostate cancer. After completing 20 treatments last November, he began a second round of care in December 2025, with 40 treatments scheduled. During this already challenging time, Bill experienced an unexpected termination from his role at the Reno Elks Lodge #597 just days before Christmas, creating sudden and significant financial strain for their family.

It’s important to note that when Bill accepted his role with the Elks, he stepped away from his position as General Manager at Famous Dave’s. While he remains a shareholder, he does not receive ongoing income from that role. As a result of his sudden job loss, Bill is now facing a gap in health coverage, will not be eligible for Medicare for two more years, and is confronting an $11,000 deductible for both 2026 and 2027. This is where our community can step in and make a meaningful difference.

For those who know Bill, his life has long been defined by service. He has spent more than 30 years volunteering and giving back to organizations throughout Northern Nevada, including the Reno Rodeo, the American Legion Boys State program, Wooster High School’s Scholarship program, Kiwanis, and, most notably, the Reno Elks Lodge 597.

Bill’s work has never been “just a job.” Whether in hospitality or service roles, he has always led with heart, humility, and an unmatched work ethic. At the Elks Lodge, he handled everything from event coordination and facility upkeep to food service, AV setup, and member support — always ensuring that every detail was addressed. His dedication played a meaningful role in strengthening the lodge, supporting its mission, and serving its members.

Beyond his formal responsibilities, Bill is someone who consistently shows up for others. He responds. He helps. He mentors. He cares deeply about people and about Elkdom. When Bill and his wife Lynn travel, they often spend their own time visiting other lodges, building connections, and inviting fellow Elks to experience the spirit and hospitality of our Reno lodge.

Now, Bill is facing a battle of a different kind — one that no one should have to face alone.

This fundraiser is intended to support Bill and Lynn so Bill can focus on completing his treatments, maintaining stability, and looking ahead to the future. It is also an opportunity to honor a lifetime of service by standing beside someone who has always stood beside others.
