Roof Raisin #2: Bright Star Stables
Donation protected

At Bright Star Stables, we believe in the remarkable therapeutic power of the equestrian experience—because we believe that students of all ages, backgrounds, and ability levels can benefit from riding and working with the horses at our center. Whether they have physical, cognitive, sensory or emotional disabilities, we believe that all of our students are our brightest stars.
Bright Star Stables is a nonprofit organization which was established in 2010, giving riders with disabilities a place to learn to become effective and competitive equestrians. Therapeutic lessons are conducted at a PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International) certified facility located in Rougemont, North Carolina.
Students of all ages come to us with diverse backgrounds and ability levels. For children and adults with disabilities, working with horses like ours can be a life-changing experience. In fact, we believe no other therapeutic recreational opportunity offers so many benefits in such a holistic way. Students will be taught equine care, riding, handling, and management to their best level of ability.
Some of the Bright Star students have competed in a variety of equestrian shows for riders with special needs, as well as open, able-bodied horse shows. Our lesson horses are retired show horses that have experience in all classes. Classes are offered in a variety of disciplines: English and Western, including pleasure, trail, and showmanship
What does it take to be a therapy horse? Therapy horses are chosen for their kind demeanor and their incredible skills. A horse in a therapy program should not have to be made to do anything, and it's obvious when the horse wants the job. Our horses are chosen based on these exact qualities. They not only have the skills, but they are willing to serve our riders needs. At Bright Star Stables, our horses give our riders a chance to make the impossible possible. The result is a happy and confident rider.
We are coordinating a "Raise the Roof" Fundraising music night and auction to help raise funds to cover our riding arena. Our riders lose valuable therapy time when it is raining or our arena is too wet. We need a cover so we can keep continuity of therapy even when the weather isn't at its best. Providing some well needed shade during the hot summer months is an added bonus! Please join us at the Blue Note Grill located at 709 Washington Street in downtown Durham from 5-9 pm on Sunday, August 28th!
A great musical line up has been arranged featuring The Usual Suspects, The Terry Wiley Band, The Ryan Harris Band, and jazz guitarist, Mr. Ross Covey! The night will be filled with Jazz, R&B, Old Rock, Blues, with beach music on request. Get those dancing shoes ready!!
We invite you to 'like' the Bright Star Stables Facebook Page and send the link to others. This will not only help us in our efforts to raise support, but most importantly, will help us reach our goal to "Raise the Roof!" No donation amount is too small as together we can accomplish great things! We truly appreciate your assistance in helping our Bright Stars shine!
