Breakthrough is an educational nonprofit that supports young people in San Francisco on the path to college and trains outstanding college students from across the country for education careers.

Research suggests only one in three potential first-generation college students in San Francisco attains any kind of higher education, a disparity that impacts all of us. Breakthrough changes this dynamic, tripling the baseline college-going rate.

This school-year, Breakthrough SF is serving 219 youth in grades 4 - 11. They apply to our program as 4th graders at San Francisco public schools and make an eight-year commitment – from the end of 4th grade until high school graduation. 100% of Breakthrough’s students demonstrate compelling financial need and 86% will be the first in their families to one day attend a four-year college.

Your donation will have a direct and significant impact on our 88 students enrolled in our high school program. It will help cover the cost of Saturday workshops, ACT prep classes, and the amazing Breakthrough staff who support our students on a daily basis. As our program continues to grow and serve more students, our expenses have increased as well. We need your help!

Your contribution is fully tax-deductible and will be routed to us through San Francisco Day School, our fiscal sponsor. SFDS does not assess gift processing fees, and provides significant other in-kind support, enabling us to focus resources where it matters most.
