Imagine a NEW EATERY and ESPRESSO SHOP in downtown St Johnsbury!!
Now imagine...
Everything inside is made from scratch, in house and without the fancy prices! That is what Matthew Laughton and Elise Nickerson are brewing up in the old post office building on Eastern Avenue.
As Elise says: "Its going to a really beautiful space where people can get food that tastes good and feels good to eat in house while we are open, take back to the office or take home for dinner at the end of the day."
In the the NEK community, Matt is well known as the tireless man behind the counter at Gatto Nero for the past few years. Prior to that, he has 18 years of experience in retail and customer service, management and culinary locales in the region. He has so enjoyed serving the community, he can't wait to expand his offerings with high quality foods and treats from the newly renovated kitchen at 139 Eastern Ave.
Elise Nickerson has come to be known in the area as the Accidental Caterer. From her childhood obsession to be in the kitchen playing with ingredients to make magic happen, to falling into running her own catering business, her drive to expand and elivate her culinary prowess and serve delectable meals to her community are a true passion and drive. After graduating from her mother's kitchen where she experimented obsessively as a child, Elise worked at Stone Soup in Burlington during her college years, gleaned knowledge from other jobs around the area and then decided to really enlargen her scope of culinary vision by traveling the world to cook with "old women in small villages". She landed in St Johnsbury with her husband and has been catering the area for the past few years. It is now time for her to realize her vision to open a restaurant where she can fulfill the dream to entice and dazzle folks with her tasty sensations!
Work in the space is well underway for a Fall Opening! Matt and Elise have been hard at work to set up Bread&Butter. Display cases are moving in, custom shelving is being built, and equipment installation is all happening thanks to some generous investments from friends and family...
Of course.....these projects take time and money beyond the blood, sweat and hilarity to bring them to fruition. Hence, we are sounding out the call to YOU!
