Custom leg braces for Grace

Donation protected
Meet Grace Kelley! This little girl was found at a local dump in Phoenix with two broken front legs. She was brought into Dr. Hershey's Integrative Veterinary Oncology for her initial work up. We did full blood work on her, x-rays, and applied soft padded bandages to help with her mobility. Her blood work came back with a very high tick fever panel. We were thinking that the untreated tick fever was related to such severe bone loss in her carpi (wrist) bones. When she came back for her recheckThe original rescue that took her in neglected to change her bandages, which resulted in severe infection. Dr. Hershey relinquished Grace from the original rescue, and I then decided to take Grace as my own. We tried to do cross pin orthopedic surgery, which failed. I then went to VetMED, where internist, Dr. Sluiter who helped Grace with her auto-immune disease, and Dr. Owen took a look at Grace's case from an orthopedic point of view. She recommended we take the cross pins out, and apply external fixates. In October, Dr. Owen moved forward with her surgery and Grace recovered great. She was walking, and very mobile. We are over the halfway mark, and we have taken repeat radiographs twice. We have seen little to no improvement, and at this time we are seeing that the external fixes are rejecting. Other options were discussed such as double amputation, or possible custom made leg braces. I reached out to OrthoPets (a company that specializes in orthopedic braces) and got into contact with Kate. She was kind enough to meet Grace and tell me her opinion on her case, and said she would be a great candidate for custom leg braces.

I am fortunate to work in the veterinary field and have the best resources available, but unfortunately, these leg braces are a bit expensive. On top of the surgeries and follow up care, I am financially constricted and I worry that I will not be able to afford the braces without help.

Despite the troubles Grace has endured, she is still a very happy, loving, and trusting girl. She doesn't let her bad legs get her down!

If you are able to spare a dollar or two it would be much appreciated beyond words. I understand if you are not able to donate, you re-posting also helps Grace and have others aware of her story. Grace deserves some new legs!

If you would like to meet Grace, please feel free to contact me and we can arrange a visit.

Thank you so much for meeting Grace Kelley.
