What and Why

I am raising $3,000 to cover my travel expenses to attend the International Scottish Blair Atholl Jamborette in July, the Scottish Scouting's premier international event.

I was honored to be chosen to attend this invitation-only international Boy Scout Camp in Scotland.

Since the Blair Atholl Jamborette started in 1946, the camp’s popularity has continued to grow but numbers are capped as it has been said of the Jamborettes that small is beautiful.

The vision of the founder, Jack Stewart, was that the Blair Atholl formula of scouts camping together, was the ultimate equation for better friendship, peace and understanding throughout the nations of the world.

Stewart's unique idea was to have a Jamborette - based on patrols, rather than troops, with each patrol to be made up half of Scouts from Scotland and half from overseas.

The grounds of Blair Castle are transformed with over 1,000 Explorer Scouts and Leaders from all over the world coming together to camp and share in fun and friendship for a 10-day camp in a corner of highland Perthshire.

The experience continues with 5 days of home hospitality with new Scottish. The total time abroad is 23 days.

The overseas Scouts bring nothing but personal gear - everything else is provided by the Scots. By living together as a patrol of Scouts, they get to know each other far better than if each country remained in troops apart, as in a Jamboree.

About Me

I have been a member of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) since I entered as a Tiger when I was 5 years old. I reached Life rank before my 15th birthday. I have 1 Eagle required merit badge remaining to fulfill.

I have been the highest ranking Scout in my patrol for 5 years. Currently I am serving as Patrol Leader. Previously I was Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Quartermaster and Scribe for my Troop #494 in West, Texas.

I am currently serving my second summer as a volunteer Counselor-In-Training (CIT) at the BSA Worth Ranch in Palo Pinto, Texas. In this service program, I live and work at a Boy Scout resident summer camp. As a CIT, I am assigned to assist staff in a variety of camp program areas and learn about the camp operations.

This four-week program provides me with the opportunity to demonstrate and develop skills as a counselor. It also serves to provide the camp staff the opportunity to evaluate my performance and potential future camp staff member.

It is through this CIT service that I was recognized and chosen to receive the invitation to the Scottish Blair Atholl Jamborette.

I am a sophomore at Reicher Catholic High School in Waco, Texas. Last month I was awarded for accumulating over 300 community service hours, the most in the school.

Expenses- $3000

Airfare $1,400
Meals & Camp Fees $600
Additional travel $400
Museum, tours, lodging & misc. fees $600

I need to cover my flight expenses by July 1. The remaining balance is due to the BSA Scout Leader Charles Schmidt no later than our departure date of July 13.

Means to Me

Living the scout oath and law have helped instill in me the values of good conduct, respect for others, and honesty.  Being a Boy Scout I have learned skills that will last me a lifetime, including basic outdoor skills, first aid, citizenship skills, leadership skills, and how to get along with others and ultimately become a better leader in my community and my country.

Your donation will help me experience firsthand the value of international friendships and how they contribute to global peace and understanding.

Thank you for helping me participate in the International Scottish Blair Atholl Jamborette. I realize this is a once in a life-time opportunity.
