Money for Victims of Boston Marathon

Donation protected

We, Danielle and Stephanie, have had the opportunity to cross the famous finish line at the Boston Marathon a collective 13 times. At every single Boston marathon our parents have been present"”supporting, cheering and encouraging us on. Anyone who has seen us run together knows that we truly LOVE the "spirit of the marathon" and feed off the amazing crowd.

We both had fabulous races and were extremely lucky to cross the line on Boylston, Danielle's 7th time and Stephanie's 6th. As we were just about to enjoy lunch on Newburry Street, we heard and felt the bombs. We were unbelievably lucky as we were all together and were able to quickly get away from the epicenter.

However, many spectators, volunteers, runners, law enforcement and citizens of Boston and around the world were not. It is with heavy hearts that we are now remembering the 117th running of the Boston Marathon. Their stories make us question why and we try to figure out a way to rationalize but it is actually not possible.

What is possible is to keep doing exactly what we love"”running, enjoying the crowd, and loving everything running has to offer. We were already planning on running our hometown marathon, The Flying Pig, in Cincinnati on May 5th. We are planning to run in honor of the victims of the Boston Marathon. Running has provided us with many outlets and releases but never in our lives has running given us such purpose.

There are many people who were gravely affected by April 15th and many people are in need of support. All of you reading this have provided an out pouring of support for us and we are so grateful. We are truly lucky girls to have such loving and compassionate family and friends.

We have decided to raise money to split specifically between two different couples who were injured while spectating at the marathon.
We hope you will join in our support of these families in any increment large or small.

Thanks again for all your love and support. - Danielle and Steph

The stories below are the couples who will directly receive
our funds:

Christian Williams and Caroline Reinsch ran the Boston Marathon last year, raising thousands of dollars for Dana Farber Cancer Institute through their successful campaign, "Make My Feet Go." Christian and Caroline were at the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15. The first bomb exploded just feet from where they were standing. Their legs were shredded by the blasts and Christian's right hand was also partially "degloved", meaning he has no skin left on his last three fingers. They are both still in the hospital and have undergone multiple surgeries on their legs. There will be more in the coming days and possibly weeks. Christian works at a company called Small Army with one of Danielle/Steven's friend.

Patrick and Jessica Downes are newlyweds who were enjoying Patriot Day in Boston while viewing the Boston Marathon. As our community and Nation watched in horror, they were in the epicenter. Both Patrick and Jessica have suffered major injuries and have a long road to recovery ahead of them. The two of them were taken to different hospitals, and because of the extent of their injuries cannot be together.
