My name is Nick and I will be going on a kind of volunteer work jungle adventure for science.
In October 2025 I will be joining Taxon Expeditions on a scientific expedition into the jungle of Borneo, Brunei to search for new species of wildlife. Borneo is one of the worlds most biodiverse environments. We will stay in a research center in Ulu Temburong National Park that still has area’s of unexplored rainforest.
I will join expedition leader prof. dr. Menno Schilthuizen and his team on a 10 day expedition where I will be working day and night (non-paid), getting lectures and workshops from experts in the field in order to perform field- and labwork and catch and determine wildlife like insects and snails using both microscopy for identification as well as a revolutionary method of Nanopore DNA sequencing.
A new discovery will be published in a scientific journal. The more we know about different species, the better we can understand the ecosystem and protect it. Understanding and preserving biodiversity is crucial for the health of our planet.
Please help me discover new species of wildlife. Any contribution big or small can assist me towards funding everything needed for joining this expedition like accomodation, travel, training, gear, etc.
Thanks for your support!
