WE ARE BOISE GUERILLA MASK MAKERS!
Hospitals, food banks, grocery store workers, delivery-persons, the elderly, and the homeless need our help now more than ever. We need to get them the proper equipment to protect themselves against this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.
A small group of Boise School District educators decided to take action first with their own time and money, then by soliciting help, inside and outside the Boise education community. The BGMM movement has spread quickly from there. We have also been consulting with Bucks Bags of Boise, offering our suggestions and experience as they begin their own manufacturing process to aid our community.
A host of volunteers are now working from home, manufacturing reusable and washable face masks which will be inserted with a reusable non-fiberglass HEPA-grade vacuum bag filter, able to filter 99.97% of particles up to 0.3 microns:
Sewing volunteers are using a form-fitting surgical mask template with a cotton/poly jersey mix--polyester for its water-resistant/wicking qualities, and tight-weave cotton for breathability. Masks are then finished with 1/8 inch braided elastic.
It's important that BGMM volunteers keep their workplace-space healthy/clean/sanitized, with as few hands on the work as possible, to prevent viral spread within the materials from manufacturing to hospitals, etc.
We have begun delivering the masks and filters to local hospitals, which is our first priority; we then hope to deliver masks to food banks, grocery stores, nursing homes, and homeless shelters.
ALL MASKS WILL BE FREE. ALL MASKS WILL BE DONATED. THIS IS A 100% GRASSROOTS OPERATION.
Please post/share on social media/with friends/neighbors as you deem fit. This will spread the word and provide political pressure to get proper PPE to those who most need it!
