Bob’s Beach Bench Fund
A place to rest, reflect, and remember a gentle soul who loved the ocean.
On May 11, 2025, our beloved father, Robert “Bob” Masters Russell Jr., passed away after a long and courageous battle with dementia. A free spirit, a lover of the shore, and a man who found joy in simplicity, Bob lived life humbly and fully. Now, we want to honor him in a way that reflects the peace and presence he brought to everyone who knew him.

Why a Beach Bench?
Bob’s heart was forever anchored to the Jersey Shore—especially Ocean City, where he spent his childhood summers and later LBI in retirement. The ocean brought him solace, inspiration, and joy. Whether walking along the beach, or jumping waves in the ocean, Bob felt most at home with his feet in the sand and the sea breeze at his back.

We’re raising funds to place a memorial bench along the Jersey shoreline, or a pathway to the beach, a quiet spot where friends, family, and strangers can sit, reflect, and enjoy the same peaceful views that Bob loved so deeply. We believe this tribute captures his essence more than flowers or plaques ever could—it’s a bench or walkway for all, just as Bob was a friend to all.

About Bob
Bob never needed the spotlight to leave an impression. A lover of blues music, progressive ideals, and thoughtful conversation, he was always more interested in understanding than in being understood. He was a lifelong learner, a soulful storyteller, and a man who cherished friendships, music, and the small joys of daily life.

He quoted Dylan and Thoreau, collected stamps and coins, watched the stock market like a hawk, and was deeply connected to the world around him. He lived simply, and believed deeply in peace, justice, and kindness.

He is survived by his daughters Donna and Rebecca, his grandson Nathan, brothers Jack & Jim and many family and friends who were lucky enough to know him.

How You Can Help
All funds raised will go toward the purchase and placement of Bob’s memorial beach bench through the Public Works program. This includes the cost of the bench or pathway, plaque engraving, and city installation fees. If we exceed our goal, any remaining funds will be donated to a local dementia care nonprofit or used to support shoreline preservation—both causes close to Bob’s heart.

We would be deeply honored by your contribution, no matter the size. Whether you knew Bob personally or are simply touched by his story, thank you for helping us create a space where his memory can live on—where the tide comes in, the waves roll out, and peace can always be found.

With love and gratitude,
The Russell Family
