Daryl “Bluezman” Hawkins Medical/Recovery Expenses

Many of you know Daryl as “Bluezman” from his ever so popular Facebook posts covering music venues and experiences throughout Northern California. I know Daryl simply as “my brother”.
For the past 11 months Daryl has been suffering from a very painful red and inflamed eye. After numerous visits to various doctors he was initially diagnosed with idiopathic orbital socket syndrome. This required massive amounts of steroids over a long period of time only to find that the inflammation has not subsided. Recently doctors determined there is a pseudo mass behind Daryl’s eye and after numerous tests it was determined that he needed to have surgery to biopsy and remove it.
Like many people in this country who work full time and pay for insurance benefits, When it comes to something major and/or catastrophic- His medical insurance barely scratches the surface of the cost for treatment. In pursuing treatment for this he made it all the way to the surgeons door before treatment was denied because his cost would have been over $20k. Through numerous phone calls and hours of advocacy work - our 80 year old mother was able to find out that the same UCSF surgeon works near to where Daryl lives - once a month - for half the cost. Daryl is scheduled to have surgery to remove and biopsy this mass on September 11, 2019. This biopsy surgery will be the start of what we hope is a cancer free treatment process; however, we just don’t know. In the mean time - we are working to help Daryl come up with the money he needs to not only pay his portion of the surgery, but to also cover the medications, post op, and lost wages.
Some of his friends have already stepped up and for that we are grateful. Daryl is proud and would never ask - so I’m asking for him. He has spent many years supporting the music community that he loves. We are now asking that community, his family, and friends, to support him. We hope you will consider supporting Daryl on this medical journey. Thank you.
