Blue's Son-Rise Program Fund

Welcome to Blue and his journey out of autism with the Son-Rise Program! Recovery from Autism is possible! Here is our story:

On December 22, 2010 our first child was born, Blue Hayden.  What a memorable experience and joy.  My life changed and a new and most incredible love found!

Blue had a normal birth but around 12 months, in my heart, I knew something was wrong. He developed fevers of 103 – 105 frequently so we had many trips to the hospital.  Blue stopped developing and slowly losing interest in the world around him.

Blue spent most of his time spinning objects, from toy car wheels to plates, lining up toys and banging his head against his crib, and only getting about 4 or 5 hours of sleep per day no matter what we tried.  He spent the time at the playgrounds and recreational centers opening and closing doors, walking up and down the steps and doing repetitive behaviors.  I saw kids his age engaging with their parents and moving on to age appropriate activities and toys.  When I brought my concerns up with his pediatrician she informed me kids develop at different ages and not be too concerned even when he was not speaking yet and to wait until he was 18 months old.  When Blue was 15 months old I decided to take control and go with my instincts.  Blue started working with a speech pathologist and I put him on a wait list to get tested globally (ADD, Autism, Sensory, etc.) which would be over three months.

At 20 months Blue was diagnosed with Autism PDD/NOS. At this time he was not making any eye contact, no language, did not respond to his name or point and was very much in his own world. He did not even notice when I left or returned home.  I did not know anything about autism.  We were in total shock! I met with several practitioners and support groups all speaking to me with those eyes of pity.  We were told Blue would need to be cared for his entire life and no hope for recovery.  That we would need to teach him how to “fit” in our world, a world that did not make sense to him, to live.

The next month following Blue’s diagnosis we had Blue see a Homeopathic MD and changed his diet to gluten free and dairy free. We had discovered the previous year Blue had a lot of allergies, including life threatening allergies, as well as gastrointestinal problems.  He now has to travel with an epi pen.  At this time I was I was pregnant with Duran and was told I need to be on the same diet as Blue because there was a 30% chance my next child would have autism.  We started Bio-Med but all of this was quite overwhelming, especially to a hormonal pregnant woman. Bio-med and Son-Rise complement each other, focusing on social and medical aspects of autism.

Luckily I met a mom online in October 2012 who ran a Son-Rise program and introduced me to this amazing program.

Son-Rise is a child led program that recognizes kids with Autism have a social-relational deficit that can be overcome. It uses acceptance and a non-judgmental approach to teach the Autistic child to connect with the world around them. This program completely transformed our lives. Blue was non-verbal until the age of 3 ½ and now speaking in full sentences. Not because he has to, but because he wants to! He is looking at us and invites us to be near him all the time. He is finally connecting and showing interest in other children.  Our sweet little boy is present and interested in our world.  He told me he loved me for the first time in October! I had tears of joy!

The Son-Rise Program has won Best Therapy in a category including ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) and RDI (Relationship Development Intervention) in the AutismOne National Conference.

We absolutely love this program and it has changed Blue’s life but we need your help. According to a study from the Harvard School of Public Health, medical and therapy treatments for Autism cost families between $67,000- $72,000 a year. Our family certainly knows that to be true especially that we are a one income family so the other parent can stay home to work with Blue.  That is why we ask for your donation to continue on this journey. Big or small, every little bit counts. Running a Son-Rise program is a full-time commitment to make a difference in our child's life. The cost for training, consultations, and continual education is very high and it has been difficult to maintain it with other medical treatments our son needs (Blue has mitochondrial dysfunction, severe methylation impairment (body cannot detox by itself), gut dysbiosis, SIBO/Colitis, compromised immune system and Lyme’s disease.  Blue is at a stage in his Son-Rise program where he would be greatly benefitted by an "Intensive" program.  Blue will spend an entire week with a team of amazing staff at the Autism Treatment Center of America, who are responsible for developing the Son-Rise program.  The cost for this one week is $18,400 and this does not include any travel costs. We just paid the $3,000 deposit. Our next payment is in December and the rest is due by March, 2017.

Will you help us by donating and sharing this with your friends and family? This program has given us HOPE! You have the power to make a huge impact in Blue's life!

Thank you and God Bless you!
