Hope fund for Liezet Arnold

Donation protected
Bloem Decor Florist is a small brick and mortar flower shop located in the center of downtown Sacramento where they have made an impact in their clients’ lives since 1997.  The love and passion shared by the owner, Liezet Arnold, for the floral industry have made Bloem Décor a go-to for event and wedding décor, floral services for the local hospitality industry, as well as a favorite provider of local floral deliveries.

The pandemic and the shelter-in-place orders have affected Bloem Decor and the downtown community like nothing before. The loss of the event scene and the working force downtown has been detrimental, reducing Bloem Décor’s business by 80%.  It has been harder now more than ever to keep hope that her small business will still be here in 2021.

At the end of May Liezet was given another large hurdle to cross: A Stage 3 Breast Cancer diagnosis. The last 6 months have been filled with the additional stress of keeping a business afloat as well as undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and continued doctor visits.

Admittedly, reaching out and asking for help is one of the harder challenges this self-starting, driven, and talented business owner is experiencing.  If you are in a position to help we ask that you donate to keep Bloem Décor right where it is, in the heart of downtown Sacramento.

Despite all these compounding hurdles Liezet still has the hope to see downtown full of laughter, music, the smell of good food, and most importantly, people again soon.

Sharing Bloem Décor and Liezet’s story via social media is another way you can help.  Thank you!

Her Story

Liezet grew up in the Netherlands. Her father was a tomato grower which meant that she and her 3 sisters worked in the greenhouses working with the fruit as well as learning important lessons on keeping a small business thriving.  She took these lessons from a young age and applied them to her job at a local florist in Maassluis.  From then on, she knew the path she wanted to take was in the floral industry. She received her Masters in floral design in the Netherlands and eventually immigrated to the US in 1985, landing in Los Angeles.  After working in LA for about 5 years, she moved to Sacramento with her husband, and in 2000 she moved her business to downtown Sacramento.

In 2007 an accident at home made her lose the use of her left hand, a huge blow to this designer’s livelihood. After almost 2 years of intensive physical therapy, she made it back to head designer and has not slowed down since.  Her saying that got her through her rehabilitation was “…Creativity is not in our hands, it is in our head, we just need to find a way to get it out.”

Shortly after recovery Liezet became the sole owner of Bloem Décor Florist. The name is a tribute to her Dutch heritage as Bloem (pronounced “Bloom”) is the Dutch word for flower. Liezet has been a staple on 10th and K streets ever since.
