Who am I?
My name is Bliss Griffin. I'm originally from Oakland, CA. I'm a sweet-spirited, justice-touting, type-A, left-handed Gemini who sleeps in Slytherin and loves sparkles. I’ve also been a New York actor for the better part of 10 years.
What’s the Problem?
My goal as an actor is to contribute to a cultural landscape where theater is both accessible and welcoming to all people. However, as I work at increasingly reputable theaters, I notice a sharp decline in audience diversity. This is in direct conflict with many theaters' mission statements touting diversity and the ability to provide art to all parts of their communities. This also means that many theaters are missing out on revenue by inadvertently excluding much of their non-white community. I think that’s an important enough problem to merit a career shift.
What’s the Solution?
That’s why I want to become a consultant and help arts organizations navigate the unique challenges they face in diversity & inclusion and to parlay that understanding into practices which will expand audiences and revenue. I have a BFA in acting, nearly a decade of experience and a deep well of self-taught knowledge regarding diversity and inclusion. I’m applying to MBA programs to support my endeavor and to deepen my understanding of non-profit business practices and challenges.
How can you Help?
So, I'm applying to three different kinds of graduate school programs: MBA General Business, MFA Performing Arts Administration, and MA Non-Profit Business Administration. Application fees are piling up, and I need help. If you support my GoFundMe, this is where your money will go:
- Application Fees: $1400
- $250 Stanford
- $250 NYU
- $250 Harvard
- $250 Columbia
- $150 Fordham
- $125 City University of New York
- $125 Brooklyn College
- GRE & GMAT Test: $400
- Test Prep Course: $350
- Transcripts: $100
- 10% to cover GoFundMe fees
The first of my applications is due January 4th, 2017, so I'd like to have everything I need by January 1st, 2017. As much or as little as you can give to help me toward my goal will be more appreciated than I can tell you. But I'll sure try in all the hugs and Facebook shout outs I can muster and I’ll keep you updated on my progress. Thank you!
XXOX,
Bliss
