Support the Billings Family's Medical Journey
11/13/2025
Dear friends and family,
We can’t begin to express how grateful we are for the outpouring of love, messages, and prayers we’ve received since Steve’s unexpected emergency surgery. It’s been a whirlwind, but knowing how many people are thinking of us has meant the world.
Steve’s recovery is expected to take a couple months (hopefully sooner), but we’re encouraging him to take all the time he needs to fully heal. Unfortunately, our insurance has started the denial process for his claims, so we’re now facing that uphill battle on top of caring for Steve and for our boys.
We also haven’t shared a lot publicly, but many of you know that our youngest son Liam has severe disabilities, including profound autism. He was completely nonverbal until a couple years ago & he also has many significant daily challenges including chronic pediatric feeding disorder - ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder), amongst many other complex medical needs. These extreme challenges have brought many hospital stays, thousands of hours of therapies, and ongoing medical appointments 5 days a week. Liam was hospitalized for several weeks over this past Christmas and into the New Year, and we’re still trying to get our insurance to cover those in network hospital expenses as well.
Life with children who have complex medical needs can be profoundly beautiful & humbling, but also incredibly demanding & isolating. Steve and I are a 24/7 caregiving team - supporting our boys through various therapies five days a week and doing everything we possibly can to give them the best chance to grow, learn, and thrive. Watching them make progress, no matter how small it may seem to others (like Liam saying his name for the very first time, & every time he says a new word, or tries tasting a new food) - it reminds us why we keep pushing forward every day.
Over the years, so many of our friends and family have asked us how they could help, and we’ve always said, “We’re okay” - mostly because we’ve been too exhausted and focused on just getting through each day. But after Steve’s surgery and with the mounting medical and therapy expenses, we finally realized it’s time to accept the help that’s been so kindly & generously offered.
The biggest thing we ask for is your continued prayers - prayers for healing, strength, guidance, and for God’s love to continue surrounding our family. ✝️
If you also feel led to help in another way, we’ve set up this GoFundMe to help with medical bills, therapy costs, and the basic necessities that keep our household going while Steve recovers - and beyond.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your love, your support, and your prayers. ✝️ It’s not easy at all for us to ask others for help, but we are beyond grateful for the amazing family, friends & community that God has placed around us.
With our most sincere love and gratitude always,
~Emily, Steve, Luke, and Liam Billings

~ May you & your loved ones all be blessed & know how grateful we are for your kindness.
