My name is Alex Pugh and my grandaughter, Blakely, is 2 years old. Blakely was born with bilateral fibular deficiency that effects her lower limbs. This means her feet have never developed. She only has one bone in her lower legs, her tibia. This condition begins in the womb, and Blakely will need to have a number of extensive surgeries during her early years.
When she was 9 months old Blakely had her first surgery, a Bilateral Syme's Amputation. Her tiny legs were cut off at her ankle where feet began to form - in order for her to be fitted for prosthetic legs. With prosthetics, Blakely needs continued physical therapy as well as constant adjustments to deal with her growth.
Blakely had a second surgery in Atlanta called Revision Surgery because her bones were bowing. The doctors took out the pins, broke the bone on her right leg, placed the pins back, and then re-set the bone.
On May 19th, 2015 Blakely went back to Atlanta to have her left leg prosthetic adjusted. Her parents were told to call the surgeon because a revision operation was now needed on Blakely' s left leg. When her mom and dad called the surgeons office they were informed that there was a $2,000 outstanding balance and that Blakely would not be seen or treated until the amount was paid in full. Children's Health Care of Atlanta did not give them an option to setup a payment plan or offer any other assistance in this matter.
The family's insurance company has already been billed and it claims to have paid the 'portion' of the previous surgeries they are responsible for. Still, Blakely's parents were never made aware of any outstanding balance. Her parents are devastated that their precious little girl is being denied essential medical care.
Both Blakely's parents work full time. But with mounting medical expenses, they are now living paycheck to paycheck.
Our immediate goal is to raise the $2,000 as quickly as possible so we can schedule Blakely's revision surgery. And since her treatment will be ongoing until she is fully grown, we are also trying to raise additional funds for this little girl's continued care. Any donation you can give will be a Blessing.
Sincerely,
Alex
