Black Master Teachers Take Charge

We are a group of highly experienced Black women educators, known as master teachers of Black children in kindergarten-3rd grade. We are responding to the crisis of failure in Black education where, in most states, not even 22% of Black third and fourth grade children score in the proficiency range on state and national reading tests.

It is obvious that our public schools do not know how to teach our children to read, write, spell, do math, and think to any level of excellence! We Black master teachers must take charge!

We are launching a new website with a collection of step-by-step videos designed to help Black families teach reading and writing skills to their children to levels of excellence. We know that the way to get Black children to succeed in academics is to use teaching methods that connect with our culture. Our videos demonstrate how to use original Touching the Spirit® culture-centered teaching methods—methods that successful teachers use with Black students.

Last year we received a NewSchools Venture fund. It enabled us to set a firm foundation of the Touching the Spirit® teaching strategies with two Chicago charter schools and 4 Indianapolis After-School programs. We have applied to other funding sources, but it takes time to receive responses and confirmation and we need to maintain our momentum going into the new school semester.

So we are asking for help to make the last payment of $2,800. on our new website with the advanced design video index. Any other funds we raise will be used to keep up the rent on our workspace, purchase needed materials, and hire personnel for continual video production, video uploads, editing, website maintenance, social media outreach, subscriptions and more.
